SentinelOne On-Prem Product Update: New Feature Puts Personal Data Under Strict Compliance & Control

Intelligent software differentiates between PII and non-PII data, preventing sensitive data from ever leaving the network for On-Prem customers

Mountain View, Calif. – April 15, 2019 – With its new PII protection feature, SentinelOne, the autonomous endpoint protection company, protects PII from unwanted storage and processing in the cloud and enables their customers to effectively meet data protection regulations and privacy policies such as the EU-GDPR. In addition to its primary cloud-native offering, SentinelOne is the only next-generation endpoint solution with a fully-featured and rigorously compliant 100% on-premises solution as well. Organizations from sensitive sectors such as finance, which are subject to strict regulations and guidelines, will benefit most from this new feature.

The approach of handling of Personally Identifying Information, i.e. any information that can be used to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, including names, addresses, social security and ID numbers as well as e-mail and IP addresses, has been reshaped since the EU General Data Protection Regulation has come into force last May. Not only the GDPR, but also other data protection guidelines or internal compliance requirements restrict the transfer and storage of PII outside the own company, for example in the cloud. This is why many companies in highly regulated industries or specific geographies continue operating their security infrastructure predominantly on-premises.

However, when selecting suitable cyber security solutions, especially in the endpoint protection area, this limitation poses great challenges, as almost all providers use external systems, such as the cloud and cloud services, reputation feeds, sandboxes, and other third-party services to distinguish actual malware from conspicuous but benign behavior. These external systems as well as the underlying management of cyber security solutions are usually located in the cloud.

SentinelOne is a leader in developing and optimizing cloud-native cybersecurity, however, it offers customers a complete on-premises version of its solution. While SentinelOne’s Endpoint Protection platform analyzes and identifies malware directly at the endpoint in a natural environment, independent of the cloud and fully automated, in some cases it also exchanges data with external systems to optimize security. SentinelOne is currently the only provider able to differentiate between personal and non-personal data and to prevent an unwanted transmission of PII.

All files, but also file paths, which are exchanged between the management system and possible external systems and could contain personal data, are marked. And if the customer triggers the “No-PII” button, the solution will not send any PII datasets to SentinelOne but guarantee that they will remain 100% local.

“SentinelOne is fully committed to meeting the rigorous needs of the world’s largest and most demanding customers, many of which must adhere to strict compliance needs in the cloud and On-Premise. While other endpoint security vendors shun On-Premises, we equally welcome cloud-friendly and cloud-avoidant customers with our flexible deployment model” said Efraim Harari, Chief Legal & Trust Officer, SentinelOne. “SentinelOne leads the way to service this important global customer demographic which handles some of the world’s most sensitive data.”
