SentinelOne Vs. Rook Ransomware – Kill and Quarantine

⚔️ See how SentinelOne kills and quarantines Rook Ransomware. The Rook ransomware family was first observed in November of 2021 and like other modern ransomware varieties, Rook embraces a multi-extortion approach. The actors behind Rook maintain a blog where victims are named, and their data is posted should they ‘fail to comply’ with the demands of the ransom. Rook is capable of very rapid encryption of local disks (including connected removable media). The ransomware also attempts to terminate any process that may interfere with the encryption process, along with deletion of volume shadow copies. Both of which aid in inhibiting analysis/mitigation.

Upon infection, victims are directed to Rook’s TOR-based portal. The Rook ransom notes (dropped into each location containing encrypted files) contain further instructions and email contacts for “support.”
