In our releases in the Scalyr Platform last month, we went back to basics, improving log search, query and ingest speed, and overall usability.
Save and share with new graph toolbars
Last month we made sharing more straightforward with “share” buttons for searches and graphs and by enabling batch export to S3 from “save.” Sharing has always been important, but seems to be even more so these days. We think that’s because anyone working in parallel (concurrent development, distributed work – where I may be working on the shopping cart and Bill is dealing with the content management system and Anupa is handling APIs and, and, and…) needs to have a visibility tool that everyone can use.
This really came through in our survey last month on DevOps observability, and it’s definitely tied to modern architectures like microservices, containers and serverless platforms. Either way, engineers are prioritizing adoption of their visibility tools so they don’t bottleneck the work. All that is to say that we see this happening and are prioritizing shareability.
Faster log search over large data sets
We get it: You picked Scalyr because it’s faster than any other log search tool. And we’ll continue to invest in maintaining that speed, and improving it when possible. This month, we released some new backend optimizations, improving our log ingest speed, data visualization process, and how we prioritize queries. And we continue to improve performance. Woot!
Downloadable graphs
You told us you need those graphs so you can share them in Slack, include them in service tickets, etc. We simplified this process with a one-click download. We made a bunch of other improvements for graphs, including information provided on hover and better graph readability.
Going forward
We are developing Scalyr with the engineering front line in mind, and with a focus on our three value pillars – fast, simple, and shareable.
We will continue to refine workflows like alerting, sharing, bulk actions, user management, and – of course – ingest and query performance.
