While some, like Tianfu Cup, focus on software vulnerabilities, most serve as talent pipelines for government agencies, including the MSS and PLA. APT40, Jiangsu MSS, and iSoon have leveraged CTFs for recruitment and vulnerability sourcing.
This talk examines China’s major CTF leagues, key events, and participation trends, offering insights into how defenders can refine CTI collection to track individuals involved in these competitions and their potential ties to state-backed cyber operations.
